Injection moulding is a method of moulding molten plastic by pushing it into a mould at high speed and allowing it to cool and solidify.
STEP 1 Melt the plastic.
Injection moulding requires plastic to be melted. However, plastics with large parts or complex shapes are difficult to melt. When making chocolate confectionery, the chocolate is crushed and then tempered, right? It is the same way.
STEP 2 Press the plastic in.
Melted plastic is very soft and can be poured into moulds. However, if the plastic is poured slowly, it will cool and harden in the process. An injection device like a syringe is then used to inject the plastic with great force. The mould is often made of metal and is called a die.
STEP 3 Chill the plastic.
The plastic in the mold gradually cools and hardens. After removal, the process of melting the plastic in (1) begins again, followed by (2), (3), and so on.
