3D printers: lattice structures

Updated: Nov 18, 2022

The biggest advantage of metal 3D printers is that they can create shapes that cannot be produced by normal cutting processes.

This is the biggest advantage. Our company is promoting the use of this technology as a tooling nested part.

Recently, it has become possible to reduce costs such as material costs and modelling time by modelling lattice structures rather than modelling solid parts as they are.

This has made it possible to reduce costs in terms of material costs and modelling time.

A lattice structure is a structure that creates a three-dimensional object by periodically arranging a lattice of branching latticework. The stiffness and strength can be controlled by varying the thickness and pitch of the branches.

However, as it is a structure with space, a structural analysis is carried out in advance using CAE to ensure that the strength requirements are met.

In the case of injection moulding, the strength to withstand resin pressure (pressure) and fatigue strength assuming repeated loading must be considered.
