Plastics are sometimes glued together to assemble parts.
There are two patterns for the adhesion method below.
①Solvent bonding
Conventional. Solvent bonding has been commonly practiced. However, many organic solvents are harmful, and their use is no longer allowed due to the growing concern about environmental problems in recent years.
Amorphous resins among thermoplastic resins can all be solvent-bonded. In many cases, a liquid "dope cement" in which 10-20% of the resin is dissolved in the solvent is used instead of the solvent alone. "Crystalline resin" is generally difficult to melt, so it is not suitable for this adhesion method. Also, since thermosetting resins are insoluble in solvents, solvent bonding is not possible. Its characteristics are as shown in Table 1.
②Adhesive
Table 2 shows adhesives that can adhere to each plastic. In addition, Table 3 lists solvents for various plastics.
