Impact load test of CFRTP

SANKO GOSEI

Updated: Nov 18, 2022

A simplified impact tester was used to apply impact loads to CFRTP trays and observe their behavior.

(The original color of the molded product is black, but it is painted white to make the fracture easier to see.)

Cracking/destruction can be observed from the four corners to the center of the tray.

After fracture, we could also observe the behavior of the tray trying to return to its original shape.

Although CFRTP is said to be lightweight and high-strength, it is not tenacious as a material and is prone to fracture propagation.

Comparison by LS-DYNA (impact analysis)

The fracture behavior of the test was reproduced by removing elements that reached the fracture stress of the material.

Impact testing is one of the most expensive types of testing, so advance prediction by CAE would be a great help in reducing costs.
