Runners can be divided into two types: cold runners and hot runners.
In cold runners, the runner is molded at the same time as the product is molded, so it is no longer needed after the molded product is removed and is discarded.
The larger and thicker the runner is for a large molded product, the more resin is disposed of and the higher the cost.
With hot runners, heaters are placed around the runners, so the resin in the runner is always in a molten state without being molded. Therefore, even after the molded product is removed
The runner is not disposed of as a runner even after the molded product is removed.
Hot runners also require a dedicated controller, so the initial investment tends to be high. Selecting and designing the optimal runner system according to the number of molding lots, product shape, and size is one of the most important aspects of molding know-how.
