In the plastics industry, the term "grain finishing" refers to a process in which the surface of a mold is physically treated by etching or sandblasting, and the surface is transferred to the plastic.
The surface finish can transfer a pattern similar to that of leather products, giving it a luxurious feel as well as making it comfortable to the touch, slip resistant, and less likely to show dirt and scratches.
Also, when considering the injection molding process, the larger the product is, the more multiple gates are used, and weld lines and sink marks are more noticeable.
The grain finish makes it difficult to see these patterns, so it can be said that this molding technology kills two birds with one stone.
