Advantages of resinisation (Decorative properties)

Updated: Nov 18, 2022

In the previous issue, we introduced the advantages of weight reduction when using plastic.

This time, we will introduce the advantages relating to decorativeness and appearance.

Resin moulded products are poured into a frame called a mould, cooled, hardened and removed.

If high pressure is applied during the pouring process, the pattern on the mould can be transferred to the moulded product. This process is used for the interior parts of the cars we use, and is known as embossing.

If the pattern to be transferred has a very minute structure, it may also appear in various colours depending on the reflection of light. (Structural colours) Here too, the moulding process transfers a special film.

On the other hand, if the mould is plated (mirror finish), it is possible to make the resin moulded product look like a mirror finish by transferring it. This is called piano black because it is similar to the black colour used for pianos.

These are difficult to add to metal products and are the exclusive privilege of resin.
