Plastic injection moulding simulation:.
Numerical analysis is used to predict product defects and equipment requirements in advance of moulding by theoretically calculating numerical values such as flow patterns, pressure and temperature when resin flows through the mould.
The need for simulation
Plastic injection moulding requires very large moulds. By applying heat to the plastic, the plastic plasticises and melts to develop flowability. However, the molten plastic is extremely viscous and difficult to flow. Injection moulding of plastics requires high pressure to make the resin flow in the mould. The pressure can be several hundred kilograms per square centimetre, which can deform metal moulds. As moulds are expensive, if a part is damaged, the production of the part is lost, so simulation is used to predict such problems in advance and take countermeasures.
Basics: what flow analysis can tell us
1. Resin flow analysis in the mould
2. Mould cooling analysis
3. Shrinkage and warpage analysis
4. residual stress analysis
Applications: Viscosity data measurement systems
