Injection welding did not provide sufficient heat for welding ,and weld strength could not be ensured. Therefore, a study was carried out using vibration welding, which can instantaneously raise the temperature of the resin to the welding temperature.
This is welded using a vibration test jig.
Vibration welding results
Test result
Confirmation of welding down to the layers of the prepreg.
View of welded cross section (SEM image)
Cross-sectional observation shows areas where the glass fibres in the resin moulding intertwine with the CFRP layer of the prepreg. This adds strength not only to the resin but also to the fibres, which is thought to ensure welding strength up to a practical level.
On the other hand, disadvantages include
Secondary processing due to welding burrs The positional accuracy is difficult to achieve.
We intend to meet the above challenges and develop applications for CFRP.
